After disappointing with 'Suburbicon' Coen Brothers are back in form with 'The Ballad of Buster Scruggs'- an anthology western drama, one of the best films of 2018.

Coen Brothers are best known for their oscar winning ' No Country For Old Men' along with 'Blood Simple','Barton Fink','Fargo','The Big Lebowski' among others. Their distinctive style set them apart and established them as one of the most prominent voices and influential figures of modern cinema.

'The Ballad of Buster Scruggs' features six short films that take place on the American Frontier. Five of which are within 20 minutes in lenght each. Yet each of these vignettes is so vast and fulfilling. The longest segment is called 'The Gal Who Got Rattled' which is 38 minutes long. And this one will stay with you long after the film is over as well as the innocent face and anxious eyes of the thespian(Harry Melling,'Meal Ticket'). Everyone of the ensemble cast gave solid performances.

In TBBS Coen Brothers are at their mature best. It is darkly humorous and deeply philosophical, touching themes such as fate and uncertainty. The last segment 'The Mortal Remains' overtly turns into a philosophical discussion. 

TBBS is visually gorgeous. Bruno Delbonnel's cinematography has certain charm and eye soothing quality. It is a thoroughly enjoyable western. It belongs to the rare breed of cinema which generate silence. After watching the film you will feel that you have just finished a good story book with rich details.
